[edit] Chicago Usability and Testing Group

The Crisis Camp Usability group is a cross-city group of individuals focused on creating a unified usability design and testing process for Crisis Camp projects. Led by Hunter Whitney from Silicon Valley camp, this group aims to instill a process of consistency, and high-quality, from the crisis commons efforts. Members from Chicago will participate in driving these processes, as well as engage in actual testing and defect tracking of these applications.

[edit] Feedback from Testing Experience

General Comments from camp usability testing experience:

  • Haitian Stories
    • Testing performed for Haitian Stories project was done on actual live website. Future usability testing (and testing of any sort) should really take place in a separate instance...
    • Need to determine testing practices across different browsers
    • Site does not specify uploading photos, we think it should
    • Support for embedded links rather than uploading attachments
    • Some content editing functionality is a must
    • GPS coordinates and date/time would be nice to have
  • Sahana Disaster Management System
  • Defect Tracking
    • Started looking at the tools we could use for defect tracking. We will need to
      • Add an application
      • Add a function or sub-function
      • Authorize users to create defects
      • Report on defects
    • Toronto has set up trax, need to see how we would do all the needed functions there
