[edit] About Us

Crisis Commons is a grassroots network of IT professionals as well as academia, non-profits, private sector companies, entrepreneurs, community associations and government officials drawn together by a call to service. Domain experts, developers, and first responders collaborate with a focus on improving technology and practice for humanitarian crisis management and disaster relief.

Crisis Camp Chicago is the local effort to mobilize Chicago IT professional in support of this mission. We are all volunteers and collaborate with other domestic and international crisis camps to create and support technological tools and resources in support of disaster relief for post-earthquake Haiti. The teams will work on specific projects or other support initiatives to achieve this effort.

[edit] Why do we care?

The faster we can respond to a crisis, the more effective we will be. We know technology can support this. Crisis Camps are changing the way we do citizen engagement and provide us a different way of doing crisis response…today and in the future, teams of first responders create a network quickly for which mobilization, and ultimately impact, is much faster
