Volunteer tasks

Volunteers are separating text messages into three groups to be dealt with as follows:

1. Requests for help - volunteer can see phone number of handset user. volunteer contacts emergency services by calling 111. volunteer provides emergency services with phone number of handset user and any info. emergency services deals with it from here. phone numbers are not published on the eq.org.nz site. volunteer then deletes message to prevent duplicate reports to 111.

2. Fact with location - volunteer makes a report and publishes it on the eq.org.nz site. volunteers are also working to verify reports by searching news sites for reliable info.

3. Other - volunteer deems information not relevant. volunteer deletes these messages.

Tweak the Tweet

This project seeks to build a collaboration network to promote Tweet-friendly hashtag-based syntax to help direct Twitter communications for more efficient data extraction for those communicating about the Haiti earthquake disaster. Use only requires modifications of Tweet messages to make information pieces that refer to #location, #status, #needs, #damage and several other elements of emergency communications more machine parsable.
