CrisisWiki is a editable directory of resources related to disaster response and emergency preparedness. Initially focusing on Haiti-related information, the wiki is being designed so that it can easily expand to address future disasters, as well as collect important local, state, national and international emergency preparedness resources before a disaster strikes.

We rolled out a production CrisisWiki instance, hosted by NPR, on Tuesday, January 19, though it is not ready for public consumption yet. Between now and Saturday, we aim to develop a category/semantic structure to support workflows for entering resource links to the wiki. Once this is complete, we will begin populating it with the various resources that have been collected by our research team.

At the various CrisisCamps taking place the weekend of January 23rd, we are hoping that most of the volunteers interested in the wiki will concentrate their efforts on collecting disaster and emergency preparedness resources for places beyond Haiti. We recommend that US-based CrisisCamp wiki team concentrate on local, county and state resources that would be useful for their own community if there ever were a disaster. CrisisCamps outside of the US should also include national resources for their own country. Any resources compiled by the research teams should be temporarily housed on HurricaneWiki until we complete the process of setting up categories on CrisisWiki, at which point volunteers will begin to move the content to the new site.
