Overview
Overview: The Haitian community has requested that CrisisCommons create a capacity for survivors to tell their story of the 2010 Haiti Earthquake. They would like to post information for survivor stories, saying thank you to the world. A construct where there would be a "wall" feature where people can go and post survivor stories. They would want to filter so that the open space is not abused. There has been an outpouring of all the communities in the world. They have been hearing so many stories. The community believes its important to capture these stories now as it is" a defining moment in our history." This would be called "Haitian Voices."

Status
This project was started in the week prior to the 1/23 camps. We have the domain name registered and a rough framework working now. Priorities for 1/23 will be:
- feature addition - see GitHub project issues
- adding automated test coverage
- re-skinning
- possible integration with Open Solace Haiti Project
- possible mobile team involvement, though this would likely happen after an API is available

Goals Purpose
- Survivors can share their stories with the world.
- Supports long term recovery by maintaining interest, supporting fundraising and linking to recovery organizations.

Issues
Because of the literacy rate in Haiti, I'm wondering if we wanted to push a multimedia component, which would be like oral histories. Perhaps setup a Google Voice number, and people could narrate their stories in audio form, and have volunteers help translate them.

January 30, 2010 - City report (Toronto)
- These are not tools created native to the Haitian communities in Canada. Our team spent much time trying to determine outreach for the projects and how to have people use them.
- For these projects to be embraced by the Haitian communities in our CrisisCamp (Haiti) cities, we need to consider connecting directly with the aid organizations and trying to see if a. they fit and would used and b. what would they like CrisisCamp (Haiti) to do for them in the technology/social media space.
- The Toronto Haitian Action Committee (BC Holmes) spoke with all the teams about the potential collaboration we could offer.
- Our Team ventured to work with each of the Haitian voices, Haitian stories and Open solace projects.
- Kreyol speaking UofT students published their story
(February 6, 2010: Heather Leson (city coordinator) was on a Tweeting Haiti panel with haihaito.com. We talked about how to connect with the Haitian Diaspora and the community in Haiti. Daphnee (volunteer for haihaito and Haitian Diaspora offered to introduce me to other folks within the Haitian community. We will continue to find ways to have our community connect and help this project.)
