Micro Text Interchange (OpenSolaceHaiti)
From CrisisCommons Wiki
Reach out to haitian voices, haitian stories, ushihidi, swift river, on our end.
The radio stations on their end
[edit] Rationale
Our bandwidth limitations are even more limited than we originally estimated, and its going to be a few weeks before our video postcard exchange network launches.
So, we are proposing a parallel effort to get messages down into Haiti.
If we connect with our allies working w/ broadcast and low power FM radio (or blackboards, or high power copy machines)on the ground, maybe we can pass them tweets of support that they can read over the air.
[edit] Protocol
We will harvest messages from Twitter. We should consider spreading the word that all tweets tagged '#opensolacehaiti' will be reviewed, and the most appropriate messages will be selected for rebroadcast, on the ground, in haiti.
We need to contact the ushahid/swiftapp team to learn more about esttin
We plant I have modeled a few messages here. Some can be prayers, some can be well wishes

I want to prioritize messages from the hatian diaspora, but an outpouring of a groundswell of support will make everyone feel better.
What do you think?
What shall we call this twitter-radion bridge? The 'micro message interchange'?
Also, I am not sure where/how the return flow will be structured.
Maybe the #opensourcehaiti tag captures both incoming and outgoing messages, and we need two more tags for #tohaiti and #fromhaiti? Of course, the more tags, the shorter the messages. #to #from? #t #f (nah, that looks like true/false). Forget the distinction?
BTW - we have a twitter account now - please contact me off list if you would like the password.
keep up the great work.
